What's more genuinely a matter of pedagogical judgement is exactly how much formal anatomical study, memorising specific bones and muscle names, a drawing student actually needs versus how much can be absorbed more intuitively through extensive observational practice alone, and art educators continue to use meaningfully different balances of formal anatomy instruction against pure observational drawing time, rather than one approach being clearly agreed as most effective.
